Here’s a review from Stephanie. We really like this review because it hits about every key point in a child’s learning to ride.
“I just bought this bike for my 3 year old daughter (in pink of course). I found out about this bike from a friend who ordered them for her then 3 year old. At first I scoffed at the idea that a bike with no pedals and no training wheels would teach a little kid how to ride a bike. Well when her daughter was riding a pedal bike without training wheels I began to change my tune. Then, a year later her now 2 year old son was using the balance bike and going all over the place. I bet, had she let him, he would of been riding a regular pedal bike without training wheels. My daughter is now riding it all over our house, and I can’t wait to get her outside with it.
It teaches her several things, one that bikes tip over and this is being learned while they are only inches off the ground vs being higher up. It also teaches them balance on the bike itself, and this is done slowly without them even knowing it.
After seeing this bike in action I now feel why would you ever teach a child to ride a bike with training wheels. It doesn’t teach them the most important lesson in learning to ride a bike and thats BALANCE.” ~Stephanie Weaver

Strider made it into two sections in the May 2011 issue of Dirt Bike! The ’New Products’ section had a great write up on the KTM branded model which is perfect for all the future motorbike riders out there.
There was also a great photo in the ‘Bits and Pieces’ section of Bobby Bonds‘ son riding his green Strider through the pits at one his Dad’s races. Bobby was rookie of the year in 2001 and WORCS champion in 2008. Imagine how good his son will be riding with a couple year head start on Bobby!

Two mentions in the same magazine!

We ran across this great review the other day and thought it would be good to post on the blog and address one issue that comes up in it below.
“I got this for my 3 year old daughter last year. She was very apprehensive about it, but gave it a try. Within a few weeks, she was lifting her feet carefully off the ground. She was even walking up the driveway with a slight incline and scooting down. Again, just barely lifting her feet off of the ground. She got her balance, but all she needs is her confidence. She did take a spill (only once), but it didn’t hurt her too badly. It happened because she was moving straight, legs lifted, but then turned her handle bar too sharply. She wasn’t hurt badly at all because she wasn’t going that fast. She even got up and tried again. So, it is now two seasons later (we bought last summer) and she is much more confident. I am confident she will be riding a two-wheeled bike with pedals by the end of the summer. All this without having to hold the back of the bike and deal with the great fear of me letting go! I recommend this running bike to anyone who might be considering a tricycle – get this instead!” ~PixieMaMa
There is an ongoing debate in the balance bike world about steering limiters. Some companies decide to put steering limitation on their bikes, we feel this limits learning, fun and overall safety. When toddlers are learning on a Strider they are learning the feel of riding a real bike, without the pedals. It is safer, Like PixieMaMa’s child, to take falls at a younger age and at slower speeds than it would be going from limited steering to limitless at an older age and higher speeds. That crash was not something to shield the child from, that crash was a valuable learning moment for taking total responsibility for steering the bike. Pixie was going slow, didn’t get hurt, learned the lesson, and is a better, safer bike rider because of it. Another advantage to Strider’s steering is that the bars will fold flat when your child falls, eliminating the potential for the bar end to injure them. (also making it easy to pack up for travel as well).
We never like seeing a child crash on anything, but crashing is a part of learning. We created this video to help people understand what happens during a crash and highlight how easily tricycles tip over and how easily they get out of control. Tricycle crashes are far more prevalent and serious than people realize… and unfortunately don’t contribute to making the child a better, safer bike rider. Strider crashes are minor, occur at comparably slow speeds and close to the ground, and, best of all, directly educate the child how to be responsible for steering a bike. Keep kids safe and help them learn the skills they’ll use for a lifetime of riding bikes. Down with Tricycles and Training Wheels… Strider on!

Ryan (Strider Founder and Chief Enthusiast) didn’t take his sons Jesse and Bode to the 2011 powersports dealer expo, but he did bring them some cool swag like this autographed poster of one of their motorcycle heroes: Chad Reed!

Balance is so important in two wheeled endeavors. The KTM Strider is a great tool for Moto Dealers to Introduce kids to balance skills and prepare them for their future motocross adventures.

My wife told me not to buy anything...but this is for the kids so it's alright...right?
Some of the Striders were at the KTM booth. They got a lot of attention, especially from the Dads, who were looking at ways of including their kids in the fun. Strider is a universal hit with parents of all stripes whatever they ride; a mountain bike, road bike, fixie, single speed, motocross, Harley, KTM, enduro, etc!

Skip Salenius, Pro SuperBike Yamaha R1 Racer, got his son on a Blue Strider. He'll be lapping his Dad on a motorcycle pretty soon!

We were recently sent a video of some Oregonian 2 1/2 year old twin boys showing their Strider skills. After less than a month of riding they are feeling comfortable on their Striders and cruising down some hills at the local track!
This is a great example of how easy it is to move from standing and walking to more advanced Stridering skills.
We hope everyone has a great weekend, whatever your plans. Join the conversation on Strider’s Facebook wall. Send photos, videos and stories of your Stridering fun to blog@stridersports.com

Lá Fhéile Pádraig Shona! Anseo is é sin le go leor eachtraí bicycling!
Today is the day to celebrate being Irish, even if you claim no Irish lineage. So…rain or shine (or snow) get your “tíre beag“ out on a Strider today and have some fun.
Send us some photos on facebook of your child(ren) riding in their Celtic green! Here’s a great collage of Strider Superstar JoJo in Cleveland at last year’s “137th St. Patrick’s Day Parade”

So…yesterday we posted on the Strider Cup which is an exciting new way to introduce your Striderer(s) to competition! It will also be a great way to get your Strider rider(s) honing their Strider skills with others, maybe they could even start a M.O.B. (Munchkins On Bikes).

We’ve been getting a lot of great input on Facebook and by email at blog@stridersports.com. Unfortunately the Strider cup will be limited to particular National Bicycle League (NBL) events…which is sad news . The good news is that Strider is the “Official PREbike” of the NBL, as such there is a Strider race at every NBL race across the nation at 125 BMX tracks!!!!
“125 tracks, all with official Strider class racing, you say? That’s Amazing!” (This is what I imagine you’re thinking right now)
“Why yes, 125 tracks…sadly there are still some states that don’t have a track” (This is what I just said out loud and the reason that everybody in the coffee shop is currently giving me strange looks)
We came up with a couple solutions:
1. Get a group of likeminded people together and start a track with the assistance of the NBL in your area! If your kids are on Striders now, this would be a great way to keep them involved in a great sport for years to come.
2. Plan a way to schedule your summer vacation near any of the 125 NBL race tracks and get your Strider rider pumped up. Most have races every weekend with many scheduling races on weeknights as well. Remember to give them a call ahead to reserve a space and find out about registration.
Let us know if you have any other ideas by joining the conversation on Facebook…whether you can get your child into the Strider Cup or not make sure that you’re encouraging them to get outside this summer and HAVE FUN!

There’s a new Sam’s Club in town and they’ve given Strider some front of the store real estate for an awesome display!

The real question is; how will they stop kids from riding these all over the store? We’ll update you after the opening!

Join the conversation on our Facebook page or send photos, stories, video or a combination of all three to blog@stridersports.com.

After mastering such skills as balance, ramps and offroad riding (among other things) it’s not time to hang up the Strider just yet. Upgrading to the extra long seat post will make it useful until they are 5!
This is a great way for them to continue working on their balance skill without being hindered by pedals. It also gives them an opportunity to be a little more daring. Whether they start getting some air off of curbs and ramps or they get more comfortable “shredding the gnar” (We’re not quite sure what that means, but probably not this) at their local skate park.
A lot of Strider riders will continue to go back to their pedal-less friends even after starting to ride a pedal bike. Remember it’s all about fun and honing their craft!
Here’s a great video showing a lot of the skills that your rider will continue to develop.
Send us updates on how your Strider rider is doing to blog@stridersports.com or share it on our facebook page!
