Progress on a Strider is different with every individual; Some kids jump right on and never look back, Others are very slow at getting the feel for it, while others may get right on and take off only to leave it alone for what seems like forever.
We get countless emails, facebook updates, Tweets, phone calls and Strider Life threads regarding Strider successes. This YouTube video is a great example of the middle ground between a beginning rider and a more experienced rider.
George Strides around an old mini-golf course, Striding though narrow gaps, up and down small curbs and does it all with an adorable Scottish accent.

We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately concerning the different levels of skill for riders. When my daughter first got her Strider as an 18 month old she mostly spun the wheels with the bike laying on the ground. At the time I kept wondering if she would ever ride it. When she did straddle the Strider most of her time was spent walking with her butt off the seat.
Nine months later I can barely believe how competent she has become. She wants to ride ALL the time and when there are other Strider riders around she is cruising right along with them. She’s still working on balancing with her feet off the ground for extended distances, but now I know that it is the next step in her Strider progression and it will happen soon enough!
Here is a great video that comes out of Germany where the generic term for balance bike is ‘laufrad’. We like this video because it shows an 18 month old Strider rider taking his first steps with his new Green Strider. Hopefully this video will give you an idea of the beginning process on a Strider. Good luck and happy Striding!

We found a great GoPro video of Devin on his orange Strider! Devin’s camera is mounted on his handlebars and bike frame to give you a totally different perspective on the Strider experience.
When Devin lets out his YAHOO! we bet you can’t keep from smiling…we couldn’t.

Marco is a fan on our Facebook page. He recently posted a great video his 16 month old son, Enzo. He is one of the younger kids that we’ve seen be this successful on their Strider! Enzo walks while seated and is even able to pick his bike up after it has fallen and get his legs back over while holding it up.
Enzo learned by watching his big brother, Diego (which is often the case). If they don’t have an older sibling to watch get a M.O.B. of Strider riders together of varying skill levels and you’re bound to see improvement. The younger kids get inspired by the older riders and the older riders will push each other to ride even harder.
Here’s a great video of Diego showing his progression from Strider to Pedal Bike. Marco said even though he loves his pedal bike…”when we go to the park to play with his Tonka trucks, he likes to do a stroll around the park with his Strider bike before we leave, it has become a ritual”

You’ve seen the Double Trouble in previous Strider blog entries, now see it in action! Wyatt and Cole, sons of Strider R&D man Charlie, test ride their Dad’s creation to see if they can cooperate long enough to make it work.
Cole’s legs are a little shorter than Wyatt’s, but this is definitely the best test ride to date!

Life has been in a huge state of adjustment lately. It is especially daunting to think about packing for our first plane ride together as a family of four. Do we bring the stroller? Will the two year old even sit in it? How much will my back hurt from carrying a chunky 2 1/2 month old in a baby bjorn all over Washington D.C.?
Then I came up with the perfect solution (actually I just remembered I’ve already seen it elsewhere)! I’ve seen pictures of JoJo riding his Strider in cool places all over the world. Then I remembered Adrian (Team Strider Europe!) and his Mom’s cool way of transporting his Strider when his legs get tired. (See Picture below)

Travel For Four? No Problem.
So, now the question is…will I be able to keep up with the two year old? We’d love to hear about Strider time on your family vacations or how you’ve taken it to unique places. Post photos, videos and stories to our facebook page…We Love To Hear From You!

At Strider Sports we love making children happy. We also love supporting local charity groups, which a lot of times means making children happy…win-win! This past summer we donated a Strider to the Central Iowa Trails Association for their annual ‘Take a Child Mountain Biking’ event.

Taking Home A New Strider!
One of the greatest things about a Strider, as I’m sure you already know, is the ability for kids to pick it up right away. They are also really great for hitting the trails, not only the pavement. (Try that on a Trike!)

Several of the other club members brought along their Striders and they were able to set up a demonstration area with some cool obstacles. As evidenced in the gallery below there were some crashes, but fun was still had by all!
To learn more about the charities we’ve donated to or you have a charity group that you think could benefit from the donation of a Strider let us know. Visit the Charity page and read how to contact us!
