Strider Twins!

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Q: What is cuter than a child on a Strider?     A: Twins riding their Striders!

We found this great review from a Mother of twins.  Have you had similar experiences to Dolly?

“I bought two strider balance bikes for my boy/girl twins for their birthday. They loved them and it was great that they were able to hop right on and use them right away. It was nice that there was no frustration on getting them to work like they have had in the past with their tricycle. We had their birthday party at a park and the twins were able to ride their bikes all over the playground and park. They have progressed just like the toddlers in the online videos and within a week were balancing. I got the pink and green bikes and both are adorable. I decided to go with the Strider balance bike because it has one of the lowest seat settings.”    ~Dolly

If you understand that formula you can quit reading now…If you looked at that formula and scratched your head like we did then keep reading!

There is an old maxim in the biking world; “A pound off the wheels = 2 pounds off the frame”. This is due in large part to the rotational weight of the tires and wheels and is especially important for the littlest riders. Weighing in at 1 lb 14.7 ounces for the pair, the Strider Ultralight wheels with durable EVA Poylmer tires on a Strider are the perfect combination of light weight, no hassle and long lasting.

When the EVA Polymer and plastic wheel is swapped out for metal rims and pneumatic tires the weight gain is almost double. This makes it harder to start and stop. The philosophy at Strider, since the beginning, has been to get the bike down to bare bones! Focus on balance and FUN! Older Strider riders will get used to the weight difference and will love having knobby tires, but for the littlest Strider rider EVA is the way to go!

What Fog? We didn't even notice! Off-roading on EVA!

Happy Striderday From Poland!

Saturday, June 25th, 2011

Mamy nadzieję, masz wielki Striderday!

We hope that you are having a great Striderday.  Hopefully (depending on when you’re reading this) you’ve already spent most of the day outside or you are getting all of your gear together to head outside for some fun!

We found this really fun “old school” video on YouTube that we thought would be a great way to start or end your day.  We’re pretty sure that there was some digital manipulation to this, but we can’t be %100 positive.

Strider: Enhancing Family Time since 2007!

Friday, June 24th, 2011

We received a great testimonial this last week that we thought was worth sharing.  Striders were developed to teach balance to young kids to instill a lifelong love of everything two wheeled.  Some times Striders bring balance to life as well!  I’ll let the testimonial do the talking…

“I am a nature loving, adventure seeking mom and my husband is… not so much, but he does have a thrill for adrenaline. I have pushed, pulled and tugged my husband in every direction and just before giving up, I begged “the cosmos” to send me some way for us to share an active and healthy lifestyle. About a month ago I had the fortunate encounter of meeting a serious Strider family at my son’s school. A couple of weeks later, our sons were riding Strider Bikes together.

My husband now takes our boys on walks around our neighborhood or to the parks (with me or without me)! I am thrilled, a step in the right direction! Not only have these incredible little bikes opened the door for off road adventure to my little boys, but they are the missing link between a grease monkey dad and a granola crunching mom! My kids love their Strider Bikes and ride every day. My husband is finally inspired enough that he now has his own mountain bike and we’ve made some really great friends in the process!

I am so grateful for our Strider encounter on so many different levels. This is not only a great toy/tool for our children, but an investment towards a healthier lifestyle for the whole family.”    ~Jen

Custom Strider Modification

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011

Custom Strider modifications have really taken off in Japan.  Today’s blog entry is a video that one of the “Team No Pedals” parents made showing how to put on a stem and handlebar combo that will make your Strider rider feel cooler than they already do!

This can be completed at home with some relatively simple additions of a: head tube shim, an expander plug, a top cap, a stem (the shorter the better) and handlebars (not too wide!), which you should be able to pick up at your local bike shop.

This is also a great way to ensure that your child’s Strider doesn’t get confused with anybody else’s when you’re out on the town or having an impromptu Strider M.O.B. session at the local dirt park!

Upcoming Strider Cup Racing in California and Indiana

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Calling all Strider riders! If you are in or near Fresno, California or Warsaw, Indiana make sure that you get out for some Strider Cup racing action this weekend (6/25 and 6/26)!

There have been hundreds of Strider riders participate in the Strider Cup this year. As the year progresses and the Strider Cup competition heats up we hope to see see that number double in the second half!

Ready, Set, RACE!

Fresno, CA – The “All American Nationals” will be happening on the 25th and 26th (this weekend) of June in Fresno, California.  It will be the largest NBL National races in California this year and should be a great opportunity to hone their Strider racing skills as well as getting inspired by the older guys as they rip up the BMX track!

Warsaw, IN – The “Midwest Nationals” are coming to Warsaw…Indiana the 25th and 26th of June.  The BMX and Strider Cup racing action at Hire Park BMX should be epic if the highlights from last years nationals are any indication.

The weather report for both race cities is sunny and warm for the entire weekend!  Get your Strider riders pumped up and get them out for some BMX fun.

Learning Every Day

Monday, June 20th, 2011

We’ve been getting a lot of questions lately concerning the different levels of skill for riders. When my daughter first got her Strider as an 18 month old she mostly spun the wheels with the bike laying on the ground. At the time I kept wondering if she would ever ride it.  When she did straddle the Strider most of her time was spent walking with her butt off the seat.

Nine months later I can barely believe how competent she has become.  She wants to ride ALL the time and when there are other Strider riders around she is cruising right along with them.  She’s still working on balancing with her feet off the ground for extended distances, but now I know that it is the next step in her Strider progression and it will happen soon enough!

Here is a great video that comes out of Germany where the generic term for balance bike is ‘laufrad’. We like this video because it shows an 18 month old Strider rider taking his first steps with his new Green Strider. Hopefully this video will give you an idea of the beginning process on a Strider.  Good luck and happy Striding!
