Happy Striderday: WBR

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

We’re taking a break from the “Extreme” Striderday Biking videos today to focus on another aspect of bikes that Strider staff is passionate about:

Founded by SRAM Corporation in 2005 and supported by leaders in the bicycle industry, World Bicycle Relief specializes in large-scale, comprehensive bicycle programs by providing supply chain management, technical knowledge and logistics expertise to poverty relief and disaster recovery initiatives.

Compared to walking, bicycles represent an enormous leap in productivity and access to healthcare, education and economic development opportunities.  The simple, sustainable nature of bicycles empowers individuals, their families and their communities.

Since 2005, World Bicycle Relief, has distributed over 75,000 bikes and trained over 700 field mechanics.  It has been a great National Bicycle Month in the US, in some parts of the world biking is the only form of transportation for essential services that we take for granted everyday.

Strider Locks In On the European Market!

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

The European Strider Team was in Cologne, Germany recently and put their own twist on a growing tradition – attaching a “Love Lock” to the Hohenzollern Bridge which crosses the Rhine near the Cologne Cathedral or Kölner Dom as it is known locally.

3 JoJo on a Mission

Has anyone seen my hands?

Even though it was a cold winter day in Germany, JoJo took the opportunity to go for a spin on the bridge and deliver the Strider Lock to the right location.  The lock was attached amongst thousands of others, and in cerimonous fashion, the Euro Strider Team threw the key into the Rhine as a symbol of Strider’s commitment to the toddlers of Europe.

8 Can You Find the Strider Lock

Can you find Strider's lock?

If you’re in Cologne and think of it, go for a walk on the Hohenzollen Bridge and look for the Strider Lock in the sea of Love Locks.  Maybe add a lock of your own, and make sure you bring your Strider – there are tons of great spots to ride around the city and along the Rhine.

Floridian Follow Up!

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Remember last week when we showed those crazy Floridians moving truckloads of clay?  They were highlighted recently on “A Gulf Coast Journal” with Jack Perkins on a local PBS channel.

The Strider Riders appear at the very beginning of the video with the longer story at the 20:26 mark.  It loads very quickly and is definitely worth watching the story of these devoted parents, grandparents, BMXers and most importantly the Strider riders.

This video highlights a lot of what we believe here at Strider Sports…”You gotta start with the roots, and this right here is starting with the roots.” ~Percy Owens (Professional BMX Rider)

Way to Go Sarasota BMX! This was a lot of hard work from everybody involved, but with the donated clay from the county and some elbow grease these Striderers will be honing their BMX skills on their new track.

Strider Progression: Part 4

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

In this installment of Strider Progression we take  a look at JoJo as he cruises off road on Earth Day!

JoJo is feeling very comfortable at this stage in his Strider riding.  He is cruising on the rough trails and pulling up the front wheel over roots.  Another key to this step in Stridering progression is the ability of your little Strider Rider to look around more while riding.  JoJo is interacting with the Filmer and others around him all while cruising along.

The skate park is another great example of this step.  Longer coasting, going up and down ramps and interacting with their environs.

Strider Progression: Part 3

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Today we are going to take a look at Luke, he’s taking it to the next level!  As I’ve been putting together this series I thought it important to put in a short disclaimer:  Every child is obviously different.  Progression can be fast or slow.  You might not even notice it…it’s kind of like when you look at pictures of your 5 year old since birth.  Each day you don’t notice change, but when you look at all the pictures at once there is a huge difference. So…with that in mind.

The keys in this stage are prolonged coasting, increased speed, and a pronounced running while sitting on the saddle.  Luke shows all of this nicely.  He is still tottering back and forth a little, but his balance is much improved.  He is going down hills and coasting with confidence.

Keep up the good work Luke and soon you’ll be able to successfully delay bedtime by evading your parents with your amazing Stridering abilities!

5 Stars in Bicycling!

Thursday, February 10th, 2011

Strider reviewed in Bicycling!  We’re not sure if this means that Strider riders will grow up to adorn spandex like the riders in the magazine or not, but we do know that they know a lot about riding bikes.

Spandex or no, Striders are helping kids all over the world hone their balance skills.  Bicycling gets the review right on and so do the reviewers that chimed in.

We’re coming up to a milestone for Striders sold…take a guess and post it on our facebook wall (under guesses go here)!

Packing For Vacation

Tuesday, January 18th, 2011

Life has been in a huge state of adjustment lately.  It is especially daunting to think about packing for our first plane ride together as a family of four.  Do we bring the stroller?  Will the two year old even sit in it?  How much will my back hurt from carrying a chunky 2 1/2 month old in a baby bjorn all over Washington D.C.?

Then I came up with the perfect solution (actually I just remembered I’ve already seen it elsewhere)!  I’ve seen pictures of JoJo riding his Strider in cool places all over the world.  Then I remembered Adrian (Team Strider Europe!) and his Mom’s cool way of transporting his Strider when his legs get tired. (See Picture below)

Travel For Four? No Problem.

So, now the question is…will I be able to keep up with the two year old?  We’d love to hear about Strider time on your family vacations or how you’ve taken it to unique places.  Post photos, videos and stories to our facebook page…We Love To Hear From You!

Calling All Charities!

Friday, January 14th, 2011

At Strider Sports we love making children happy.  We also love supporting local charity groups, which a lot of times means making children happy…win-win!  This past summer we donated a Strider to the Central Iowa Trails Association for their annual ‘Take a Child Mountain Biking’ event.

Taking Home A New Strider!

One of the greatest things about a Strider, as I’m sure you already know, is the ability for kids to pick it up right away.  They are also really great for hitting the trails, not only the pavement. (Try that on a Trike!)

Several of the other club members brought along their Striders and they were able to set up a demonstration area with some cool obstacles.  As evidenced in the gallery below there were some crashes, but fun was still had by all!

To learn more about the charities we’ve donated to or you have a charity group that you think could benefit from the donation of a Strider let us know.  Visit the Charity page and read how to contact us!

Nashville Doesn’t Get Much Snow

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

At least a couple inches doesn’t seem like much to us.  We, here at Strider have a snow prototype that we’ve talked about previously.  When it snows in Nashville they are quick to adapt!  We ran across this cool modification on the Nashville Bicycle Lounge Facebook page.  Rather than build skis they added some fatter tires to help their little ones stay on top of the white stuff.

We love to see what you guys do with your Strider!  Whether its adding bells, streamers, horns or some sweet fat snow tires.  Keep It Up, and make sure to post photos and stories of the results on our Facebook page.
