Wednesday, March 21st, 2012

What a great weekend of racing under the roof in Desoto, TX! Riders from Cowtown BMX were there again in force sweeping the 4 year old class…okay they were the only ones in the 4 year old class. Team Crusader Bikes showed up to place 2nd in the 3 year old class on the one of a kind Ti-STRIDER!

Most of the US Olympic hopefuls were taking the week off to prepare for next weeks race in Chula Vista, CA at the U.S. Olympic Center, but the international Olympic crowd was there in full force looking to pick up some much needed points and riding time.

Strider Cup® Racing Makes Official UK Debut, April 1!

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Nottingham Outlaws BMX club will hold the event at its Seller’s Wood Drive, Bulwell, track on Sunday, April 1.

Children aged from 18 months to five years will race on pedalless balance bikes.

Event organiser Phil Gray-Blest said: “We’re really pleased to have the Strider team join us for their first full Strider Cup event in the UK. It means that we are now able to give children from 18 months the chance to try cycling in a fun, competitive and safe play environment.

“This is the second year that our club races have included novice BMX races specifically for new riders and this new balance bike event will enable even younger riders to get involved.”

Strider Cup and World Cup races are held all over the world. They are designed to help children learn co-ordination.

The Strider racing at Bulwell will mark the start of the first-ever official series of balance bike races held on British soil.

Happy STRIDERday: Top O’ the Mornin’ Edition

Saturday, March 17th, 2012

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day we found the 2011 Irish Dowhnhill Championship…You wouldn’t believe how difficult it is to find a decent video of a leprechaun on a bicycle! Alice and Andrew from Ireland(Below) were the closest we could get. If anybody does happen to dress their STRIDER Rider up for a St. Patty’s Day parade make sure to share your photos and video at StriderLife.

Alice and Andrew, Irish STRIDER Riders Extraordinaire!

I think our favorite part of this video (besides the amazing downhill course) is how casually some of the riders are dressed, Several are wearing t-shirts and shorts. In most other countries the riders are fully padded up for a race like this. Just goes to show you how tough the Irish are!

Friday, March 16th, 2012

Any and all Strider Cup racing fans should be checking out the newest issue of PULL Magazine! The main article in this issue was appropriately entitled “Generation Next“, while it wasn’t about STRIDER Riders it would certainly be an apt description.

The March issue saw the addition of a new section titled “PUSH” which features results and highlights of STRIDER Racing Action from all the USA BMX Nationals.

See you in Desoto, TX at the USA BMX Super Nationals this weekend!

STRIDER Moves to Facebook Timeline

Thursday, March 15th, 2012

Just wanted to let you all know that the Strider Running Bikes page has been “Timelined”! There are some good things, and some not-so-good things, about the new page…

The good: You can see what your friends are posting on the Strider Running Bikes page, and we can make the photos larger to highlight them. There will also be ways for us to pin certain posts at the top of the page. It’s also kind of fun to look back to when the STRIDER page was started. Another good thing about the timeline is the nice big cover photo space. This allows us to better highlight the winner from each month’s STRIDER Calendar Contest over at www.StriderLife.com.

The not-so-good: Fan posts will be corralled down below in a box called “Recent Posts by Others on Strider Running Bikes.” Photos appear as a paper clip, not a thumbnail. … But if you open the box you can see everything in a Wall-like format. Posts by STRIDER are in a separate box, in another column. And to borrow a line from Henry Ford, Facebook says you can make the photo any shape you want as long as it’s horizontal … or square.

We’ll keep you updated as we play around with the formatting…Stride On!

A Phone Call, An Email and Two Happy STRIDER Riders

Tuesday, March 13th, 2012

About a month and a half ago we received a call from Kirk in Colorado. He had been driving home from a visit with his grand kids in Denver when he spotted a bright green spot in the snowy ditch on the side of the road. Wanting to help keep the road clean for others Kirk stopped to put the green thing in the back of his pick-up. When he saw that it was a STRIDER Kirk gave us a call to see if anybody had contacted us about losing one or if the parents may have registered the bike with us. He left his phone number and we never thought it would go further

*Dramatization…This may or may not be anything like what Kirk actually saw

A week later we received the below email at our general information address from Jennifer:

I LOVE the strider bike! We bought one for my daughter before she turned two….on the lowest seat setting, she could barely touch the ground. We’d make her ride it…and sometimes she’d only do it for a minute or two. But she mastered it in no time and we bought her a 12″ bike with pedals as soon as her feet could touch the ground. It’s a very heavy bike, actually and she learned to ride it after just a few sessions at age 3 1/2. She can balance on it almost standing still. We never used training wheels and she is the youngest person we know who rides a bike without them. The strider bike is also very light weight…easy to carry when you’re on a walk and they don’t want to ride anymore. Toddlers are fussy like that. Now my 16 mo. old son is already on his (well, was, it fell off the car on the way to CA from CO. BUMMER!) I love that bike so much I cried (bothered me more than the kids!) Anyway, thank you so much for the cool creation. My kids love it and they really CAN do it!”  -Jennifer

What are the chances?

We gave Kirk a call back to let him know that we had found the STRIDER owners over 1,000 miles away! In the mean time Kirk’s grandchildren had been enjoying the Green STRIDER. We couldn’t bring ourselves to take away a bike from kids who were using it so we told them to keep it and to make sure to come out to the STRIDER Adventure Zone and STRIDER Cup races in Denver at this year’s USA Pro Cycling Challenge finish festival!

Jennifer’s daughter, has moved on to her pedal bike in their final destination of Arizona:

I can do it...thanks to STRIDER!

Jennifer’s Son, is riding in style on the brand spanking new Red ST-3 STRIDER we sent him…we couldn’t stand to see a STRIDER deprived little brother!

Watch Out Big Sis, I’ll be pedaling before you know it!
