John, JoJo and Nanda...Putting the International in Strider Sports International!

In the weeks and months to come we will be following JoJo and his meteoric rise in international Strider riding fame!

This week finds him enjoying some sun in the Southern Hemisphere.  Watch the Youtube video below of JoJo in Rio de Janeiro…half the fun is watching the reactions of people who have never seen a Strider before.

Like Father, Like Son

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Here’s a great photo sent in by a Strider parent!  While Dad is ripping downhills, bumping off roots and dropping off sick ledges his son is waiting at the bottom on his matching Strider.

Just imagine in 10 years when Dad is having to play catch up as his son rips it up on the same course!

Griggs on a “Big Hill” and moving up to a pedal bike!

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Here are a couple great videos of Griggs, a Strider rider and now a recent pedal biker!

This is a great video showing how balance skills are developed with the Strider.  Griggs is ripping down the hill and is able to use his feet to balance…If you’ve ever seen a child on a tricycle in this same situation you’d be mortified!

“Griggs rides a bike with Pedals for the first time. He received the Strider from his grandparents for Christmas 2009. He turned two at the end of January 2010. This is the end of October 2010. He has not ridden with training wheels, only on a tricycle type setup to learn to pedal. Strider or balance bikes in general are the way to go! We like Strider b/c they fit small kids, and they are light!”    ~Griggs’ parents

We love the enthusiasm from Griggs’ sibling at the end of the video!  Keep up the great work Griggs!

And now…physics and tires!

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

I bought a Strider bike for my 2 year old for his birthday. The polymer tires are already very worn down…he rides it all day every day….wondering if you would recommend replacing with another set of polymer tires or a set of pneumatic tires. He handles the bike extremely well and we absolutely love it!   Thanks, Melissa

This is his first trip to the skate park and definitely not his last!

Melissa,  Great video!  He’s really riding great for just 2 months on the bike!  As far as the EVA polymer tires wearing down, the ‘tread’ on the tires really isn’t important, they’ll roll and roll long after the initial ‘tread’ is gone.  And with the low center of gravity of a Strider, they’ll offer ample traction on nearly every surface.  The beauty of the EVA tires is that they are SO light.  This is fundamental to success for a really little kid.  The pneumatic tires are a little smoother rolling and have good traction but they weigh twice as much as the EVA tires and the rotational weight is considered to be twice the detriment to bicycle performance as actual weight.  So, adding pneumatics will make your sub-7 pound bike an actual 9 pound bike that will feel like an 11 pound bike!  Plus, the energy stored in the rotating wheel will also make it harder for the child to stop the bike.  So, for a really little kid, the stock EVA tire is the way to go.  Once he’s older and stronger and can handle the added weight and stored rotational energy, then the pneumatics are a nice option.  Hope that helps.

Jesse, the Boy on the Box

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

If you’ve seen a Strider box, then you’ve seen Jesse.  He is the boy on the box!  The Strider staff is happy to report that he is still shredding.  Here is Jesse at a local BMX track showing off his mad wheelie skills.

We at Strider are also happy to report that no hole has yet been found in the space-time continuum as a result of this apparent paradox.  Let us just hope that Jesse hasn’t figured out how to time travel on his Strider or it could prove to be disastrous.

Strider PREbike at Interbike (Part 3-Tinker Time)

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

On Thursday David “Tinker” Juarez stopped by the booth to sign some Striders for an International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) fundraiser. As a four time 24 hour endurance national champion (and Father) it means something when he says, “It is a MUST for toddlers! Strider is seriously the best balance bike on the market. My son Joshua was using the Strider as soon as he was able to walk well and we think it is the best way to teach children balance and coordination.”

Three Strider PREbikes with special IMBA decals were signed by Tinker at Interbike. Two were put on silent auction during the trade show raising $230 to help IMBA with their rider education and trail maintenance crews.

The last strider will be given away on the IMBA website. If you’re not yet an IMBA member check out the amazing deals you can get by joining!

Testimonial: Strider is Sheer Delight

Monday, October 4th, 2010

“I just wanted to share my thoughts on Strider bikes. They are great! I got one for my two-year old a couple of months ago, and he recently started balancing on his own. I thought it would take him a year or so, but in just a couple of months?!! Wow!

I captured the moment with my camera, and I just wanted to share the photo with the Strider company.”

Thanks, Strider!

Try this with a Tricycle

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Face it…the only way things EVER get exciting on a tricycle is when they get dangerous. Nobody wants to put their toddler in danger, but trikes are inherently dangerous. Plus, kids need perfectly flat pavement to even move on a trike.

A Strider PREBike lets the little kids rip it up on ramps and at skate parks and off road, totally in control, totally at their own speed.

When kids are having fun and engaging their brains in challenging activity, they are more likely to continue playing and being active.  This keeps them outside and off the TV/ video games.  We love seeing video of strong, healthy little kids outside tearing around on Striders!  Keep the videos coming!

Strider Shipped to Italy for Family Vacation

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Here’s one from our emails:

Nate in Alta Badia

Nate in Alta Badia

Hi:

We don’t normally take the time to write testimonies, but my son has had so much fun with your Strider bike that we shipped it to Italy for our summer vacation, and it was the hit of the trip. We thought you would want to know that all the Italian kids watched with envy as my 3 year old rode through the streets of Florence, the hill towns of Toscany, and kids and adults alike were impressed as we rode the trails and gondolas in Alta Badia in the Italian Alps.

Also, you should know that we called once, shortly after we got the bike, to say that there was a bearing problem with the front wheel, and to our surprize someone answered the phone (on a weekend) and we had a new wheel shipped in a couple days without the hassles and paperwork you would normally expect.

Thanks,

Adam, Wendy and Nate
