How to Ride a Strider PREbike

Monday, July 26th, 2010

This is John’s son.  John heads up our International sales.  His son is 2 ½ and really tearing around.  This is a great video shot in a nature park in Cleveland, OH, all off-road.  It shows JoJo going over logs, leaves, tree roots, etc. and having a good time.  Also shows Mom running to keep up!  And really demonstrates the striding, foot braking, striding with one leg on the footrests, etc.

We think JoJo looks like Luke Skywalker riding his speeder through the forests of Endor.

Product Review on The Old Schoolhouse site

Sunday, July 25th, 2010

We were reviewed by Karen Yuen from The Old Schoolhouse Magazine for homeschool families. Here’s an excerpt:

the Strider Running Bike offers some wonderful advantages. First of all, it’s very small; so very young children can start learning long before they would comfortably fit on even the smallest standard bikes. Also, the bike is so lightweight that young toddlers really don’t need much strength to push themselves along. Learning to balance is really the key activity. I also like the “stiffer” steering that comes standard with the bike. This makes is easier to handle. But as the bike is ridden more, the steering loosens up. Very ingenious!

Black Hills BMX Event Sponsored by Strider

Saturday, July 24th, 2010

What a blast! We had a toddler/preschooler race.  Plus, we brought Striders with the optional heavy duty wheel set and let the big kids do some Strider “pit bike” racing.

Best Strider PREbike Video? You decide.

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

One of the best Strider PREbike videos ever. The song is catchy…except it drops a few F-bombs at the very end (in case you’re watching with your kids). It’s from Japan, so perhaps they didn’t understand the lyric?

The video shows some great technique, including braking by dragging feet. We’ve found that most kids this young don’t have the strength yet to operate mechanical foot or hand brakes. That’s why Striders don’t ship with brakes. The optional foot-brake is really useful when your kids are a little bigger and want to start practicing skids. But, for just plain stopping power, nothing beats the good ol’ Fred Flintstone method!

The other great thing about this video is you can use some of the points of reference (railings, people walking, etc) to get a feel of JUST HOW SMALL THESE BIKES ARE!

UPDATE: I just want to repeat…the song on this video has the F-WORD several times at the end.

nbl-nashville

NBL-kristaWe’re just thrilled to be associated with the NBL. As the official PREbike of this BMX (Bicycle Motocross Racing) network, we know that we’ll be helping kids learn to ride and compete at an earlier age.

The NBL Music City Nationals, in Nashville, Tennessee had a Strider bike race for toddlers at their event on July 12.

Here’s a picture of the winner. Don’t you love Krista’s racing gear?

This is the Press Release announcing our sponsorship. (HINT: if you look closely at the NBL web site, you’ll find a great deal that you can use here when you purchase a Strider for your own kids.)

NBL Announces Strider Sports International As The “Official PREbikeâ„¢ Of The NBL” Strider Will Provide Every NBL Track With A Strider PREbikeâ„¢

GAHANNA, OH (July 6, 2010) The National Bicycle League is excited to announce a new partnership with Strider Sports International, makers of the Strider PREbikeâ„¢. The Strider PREbikeâ„¢ is a revolutionary pedal-free bike that enables toddlers to learn how to ride and balance a bike more quickly and safely than a typical tricycle or bike with training wheels. The partnership between the NBL and Strider is designed to expose the maximum number of toddlers to the thrill of bicycle riding while simultaneously giving the local NBL tracks a way to raise money as they develop the racers of tomorrow.

NBL CEO Gary Aragon welcomes Strider to the NBL family by saying, €œWe are always looking for ways to bring in new riders to the exciting sport of BMX Racing. Partnering with Strider allows us to reach more young riders than ever before. Now we have a platform for introducing the youngest members of the NBL family to a lifestyle that includes exercise and the character-building challenges of competitive racing.

The scope of the partnership between the NBL and Strider includes exposing toddlers to the PREbike concept, offering opportunities to compete and providing a way for local tracks to raise funds for the development of the sport. Starting with the NBL Music City Nationals in Nashville, Tennessee July 10-11, Strider PREbikes will be available for demo rides and pit bikes races for children age 18 months to five years old. Strider also plans to provide NBL tracks with a Strider bike to help encourage potential young riders to start racing. In addition, NBL tracks will receive 10% of the proceeds from the sales of Strider PREbikesâ„¢ using the NBL promo code.

Strider Sports International Founder Ryan McFarland adds, “The Strider PREbike was borne out of my desire to teach my son how to ride on two wheels at the youngest age possible. Cycling has been a passion of mine since my childhood, and I wanted to share the thrill and adventure of the sport with my children. Teaming up with the NBL allows us to share our passion with families around the country.”

About Strider Bikes
If your toddler can walk, your toddler CAN ride a Strider PREbikeâ„¢. Skip the tricycle. Skip the training wheels. Go straight to riding on TWO wheels. The Striderâ„¢ balance bike helps toddlers learn balance and coordination BEFORE pedaling, which develops glittering confidence and amazing bike handling skills. So ditch the tricycle and training wheels, and teach your child to ride a bike sooner, better, and safer with a Striderâ„¢. For more information, visit www.stridersports.com.
